September 8 – Wahoo

8 Sep

This week was all about seeing the miracles of Heavenly Father- of connecting with His children and helping bring them closer to Him. Haha I guess every week is that but regardless, it was pretty cool.

One returning Sister we visit (and is preparing to recieve her patriarchal blessing) also has a less active son. The son only ever comes out but to say hello and then goes back in his room. But it was really neat because this time we got to know him a bit more and then he stayed out to play a game (first with get to know you questions and then with spiritual questions). It was really neat to see that change and have him participate with us and I think he had a good time 🙂

Also, something really cool. This past week we were at a members home for a little birthday party thing. It was all good and ordinary and then we had to leave to go make it to one of our appointments. The Mom and the daughter decided to take us. I was in the back seat with the daugther. It’s actually really neat, she doesn’t know that much spanish either, mostly french and is working on her english. She prefers to talk in English. So I took it as an opportunity to get to know her. It was amazing. We started talking. About normal things at first, school, things she likes, etc. And then she just opened up. We talked about where she feels she is spiritually and what she wants in the gospel. She told me her struggles and how its hard for her. She needs us, she needs good strong influences and testimonies. She told me of the one time she really felt the spirit in her life (girls camp- how neat is that) and how that’s what she wants to feel more than anything. So we made some plans. She set her alarm for 10:30 every night. When that goes off, she is going to go say her prayers. If she was at her friend’s house she could go use the washroom and say a prayer- she just needed to do it 🙂 She is also going to start reading the scriptures too. And we are going to try and do some of that together. It was really neat. That was Friday. Then Saturday came along. We had a pretty fun day with teaching English class, finding new people and then I just got super sick haha. It was near the end of the day and the thing was that we were locked out of our house so we thought of the family and they came to the rescue! We went to their house and guys, it was awesome. She just stayed there with me and we talked more. Such a great opportunity and she is super cool. She told me that the night before the alarm went off, she didn’t do it at first and said she would do it later. She got ready for bed and climbed in. She was about to sleep when she remembered that she didn’t pray. So she got out and then prayed. Then in the morning she remembered again and prayed in the morning! So cool!!! She said it felt really good. She is a really neat and beautiful young woman. I’m so happy and exciting to keep encouraging her and help build her up 🙂 It’s amazing how Heavenly Father works and puts us in the path of people that we need to touch and help them on the path to come back to our Heavenly Father. I love that.

Some other quick highlights, planning two surprise birthday parties which it’s a lot of fun! And guess what is happening this weekend?!?! E is getting baptized. He had his interview yesterday and is ready. We are going to try and see him everyday to help him continue:)

Well I sure love you all and hope you have a fantastic week! Keep up the miracles and serving others. The gospel is true, perfectly true. I love you! You are amazing!

What an awesome week. Seriously. I loved it. Haha I feel so cheesy starting off the same way as usual but seriously, get ready for some miracles 🙂

We had a great opportunity to help out one of our less actives, A (la hija- it gets so confusing because her Mom’s name is A too. And usually in prayers when they are both together I end up saying A like 20 times and probably they don’t have a clue which one I’m talking about). Her Mom recently got baptized and in the beginning it was really just saying hello to her A (hija) when she was at her Mom`s. We would sometimes go and see her by herself and drop by but her desire to really listen wasn`t there. Plus, A`s husband was also really against religion in general and would never really even say hi to us. And usually crack jokes or something. Haha.

But through service things are changing and keep changing for the good! It was A`s husband`s (S) birthday and she called us to ask us to help her do a surprise birthday party. It was pretty fun making tacitos and pastalitos with her and her Mom. That food is SO good. But SO not good for you (tons of grease and carbs, anyhow…). We decorated, cleaned her place and it was all ready. When S came in with a few of his friends who were with him he was pretty happy. He even invited us to stay and eat cake with them (we didn`t because the friends had also brought beer but his sincere desire was super nice). And while we were cleaning and stuff we put on some mormon messages on his laptop. I told him that we saved him some mormon messages for him to watch later haha. He just laughed and said thanks. Haha he’s a funny guy. And A is becoming alot more receptive to the gospel and we are able to teach her more and she is super open with us now. Like, she really and sincerely likes us. Plus, she has the second cutest baby in the world (Eliza’s first obviously) and he ALWAYS laughs and smiles when he sees me. It`s amazing what the spirit of service and love can do 😀

Haha! This is how our surprise birthday party was transported to A's house. Also, the tacitos fell on the bus... that was fun!

E is coming along. He is doing super great and we had a really cool spiritual lesson with him and 6 other members! One of the Sisters in the ward (she is like in her 70s and she is always willing to come out with us and loves it. When we onced asked her what her favourite thing to do was she was like, “To be with my family.” and then she added, “And also come out with the missionaries”. That will be me.) invited Sister Ruiz and I over to eat paposa and she invited a young man who is going on his mission, his Mom, her son and daughter in law and E! We talked about temples and family history work. The spirit was so strong. So strong. Everyone was just testifying and sharing the blessings they have received from the temple. Wow. Tonight E is giving the lesson at an FHE on baptism.

This family is so awesome. La familia Pina (it means pineapple!). Such great members. We played a gospel game for FHE!

This work is just super exciting. We are doing a lot better on finding and been having some success so we shall see where that continues to go this week. I am loving it. Of course there are the difficulties but everytime I need a little extra something, as I turn to the Lord, open up my heart, I am always filled. It’s amazing to see how that is done in so many ways. Sometimes, it’s in a scripture, sometimes just the peace you feel when you really pray to God, sometimes it’s answered in an email of love and encouragement, sometimes its seeing little kids do something funny or just in the kind actions of a companion. But always, always His love is there.

I am so grateful and love having a song or prayer in my heart. It fills me with light and happiness. I know our Father lives and loves me too. I know that He loves all of His children and wants us to become more like Him every day in our “eternal journey of the soul”.

I love each and every one of you. Thank you for your prayers and examples. You are incredible and I can’t wait to hear how the Lord touched your lives and helped you reach out to someone around you. Have a great week! Remember who you are and always remember to look up 🙂

What an AMAZING week! Like, so fun. Some highlights. First, we went to the beach!!! But not swimming, don’t worry ha. But it was super cool. Defiinitely the highlight of the week. Our beloved Zarahemla ward has an annual trip to the beach. Usually, we wouldn’t have been able to go, but we got permission from President Patrick. It was such a great opportunity because members brought their friends, less actives came and the members and leaders were there. WE really got to know our ward, and talk with the friends that members had brought, E came and loved it (side note, we had a lesson there with him about the law of tithing. We weren’t sure what he would say or think. But he just understands it. He seriously teaches us every time) and the ward and missionaries has a lot more unity now. We were able to serve them and helped out with the activities. It was great. And awesome to talk in Spanish a lot longer too 🙂

Oh, the most beautiful people! From the trip.

I really don’t have any more time but I do want to let you all know that I love you. I have really seen how the Lord has strengthened me this past week and the joy of living the gospel. I can look back at the times in my life when I have trusted more in the Lord and really lived the gospel of Jesus Christ and the times when I struggled to do so. There is a difference and I know that the gospel brings peace and happiness and joy- real joy, joy that makes the little things that aren’t right or go wrong not matter because you have an eternal perspective and have the light of the world in your life. I know it’s true and I love it.

I hope that makes sense. Have an amazing week!

Love,
Hermana Godfrey 🙂

FAMILY!!!!!! 😀 Wow! We had some pretty cool miracles this week! Our investigator E is doing sooooo good. He went to the single adult conference (which he just choose to without any encouragment from anyone) and loved it! And he went up and bore his testimony!!! In french too. So cool. We taught him about the Priesthood and service yesterday. When we teach him he just gets its and understands it and then lives it. So he is preparing to recieve the Aaronic Priesthood after baptism. So great.

Circle of champions. So much in the photo. We helped out for the single adult conference. This man was a miracle. We pretty much had 2 1/2 hours of motivational speech. I feasted on it. i wish i could wake up everyday hearing him talk about how we need to create and be our best selves! Love it!

Also, in our stake they are starting to have all the Bishoprics write a list of at least 5 names of people who were not at church and that he feels would benefit from a visit and then he gives it to the missionaries. It’s AWESOME! We really are trying to work more with the ward and to also have them notice these people. It’s kinda crazy because before my mission I just feel that I had this huge desire to do missionary work and would pray for experiences but yet at the same I had no idea how or what to do. But I understand it alot more. Each and everyone of you I invite to read the talk “Building the Kingdom of God” by… i am trying to find the link and will keep on that. If any of you do let me know. It’s amazing. So amazing. I testify to every word of it. We just need to reach out. To observe and then to reach out.

Sooooo, our Bishop gave us a list of names this past week and we went out and found them. There was a lot of really neat new people to start working with. It was great to see the Bishop catch the vision and use us in ways that haven’t been done before. We reported back this week. And we got about 20 names of Sisters who weren’t at relief society this week from the Relief Society. It’s fantastic!

Well, I love you all and hope you have a great week! I’m glad to hear that Mara Lake was super fun 🙂 We got a lot of rain too this past week but today it’s getting sunnier! Keep up your good examples and loving the gospel. i love you!

Love,

This is our friend F on his birthday! Feliz Cumpleanos

Familia! I took up a lot of time putting those photos on. But I really want to tell you about F. He was the young man in the photo who had his birthday. So one evening we were on the bus traveling and we saw him. I love to practice speaking Spanish with those that know it. So we went up to him and asked him if he spoke spanish (haha I’m working on orginiality). We didn’t have very long but found out that he was from Colombia. We didn’t have time to give him anything. But then later that night we were on our way home and guess who we saw on the bus?! Our friend F. We talked to him again and got his number so we could get ahold of him again. We ended up meeting with him a couple days later. He is so nice. Kinda shy (but every time he just gets more comfortable and opens up more. It’s really neat!) He turned 17 and his family is in Colombia right now. Yesterday he came to church with us and when we met with him after and asked him how he felt during church he said, “that is felt good. It felt familiar, like he had been there before.” It was really cool. It really is a witness to me. Heavenly Father confirmed part of my setting apart blessing that says, “God has prepared individuals for your testimony.” It’s amazing to see and know that the little things we do to reach out to people matter. Heavenly Father loves us. He really does put people in each of our paths so that we may be able to help lift them up and help them feel and recognize who they are. Sometimes that is done in small ways, sometimes in bigger ways. But there are always people we can lift around us. How glorious this plan that Heavenly Father has for us. I love you all. I hope you have a great week. Be safe. Remember who you are and go shine your light!

Love,
Hermana Godfrey

August 4 – 4 Nephi 1: 15-17

4 Aug

familia 🙂 so I don’t have too much time at the moment so it’s probably going to be a shorter one. But I do have photos! (note from the editor: photos never came)

I am becoming so Latina!! Haha I love it. Don’t worry, I am and will forever be 100% Canadian but my spirit is pretty duel citizen. Well, actually it’s probably just a big mix of every Latino country! Which is fine by me 🙂 some days I just want to wear a poncho and sombrero!

This week amongst the miracles I learned how to make sopas, arroz con leche and how to roll my r’s a little bit more. Pretty successful. The other day we had just finished a fast and about to go into a member’s home. In my prayer for some reason I just had this desire to pray that there would be arroz con leche but I thought that was a little juvenile so I didn’t. But then we go in and low and behold she pulls out some arroz con leche and was like, help yourselves! I pretty much died happy.

So now that I have about 3 minutes left let me tell you some more civilized miracles. Actually super cool. The other day we had finished up planning for the week and headed off to a recent convert’s house, A. She had just moved so we helped with organizing and all. Then we sat down for a lesson. She had been reading in 2 Nephi and was like, I’ve been wondering, why do we have Isaiah in here? I was so excited because I had been studying this this past week (it takes me a while to get through a chapter in Spanish cause I got to look up a bunch of stuff and then I am also looking up other scriptures to help me). I was like, I know! We turned to 2 Nephi 6. I explained how Nephi had just consecrated and set apart Jose and Jacob as teachers and priests. Then we read verses one to 5. As she read she was like, wow! It makes sense. She said she thought they made a mistake by having it in here. She then looked at me and was like, The Book of Mormon is true. It’s all true. Oh how beautiful that was. I teared up a bit too. The gospel is true. It’s all true.

I love you. Thank you so much. Especially this past week for your responses. That helps me so much. Thank you. Have a fantastic and wonderfully adventurous week!

Love,
Hermana Godfrey 🙂

July 28

28 Jul

We had some pretty spectacular things this week! And I have all these photos from them haha but I forgot the adapter. Next week will just be pictures! 😀

This past week was the birthday of a recent convert, A. She works like crazy and does everything for her family. She is just the sweetest and most optimistic person despite circumstances! Such a great example to me. So we decided to do a birthday surprise for her! We had her daughter in on it too. We went to her place (with her two crazy and adorable chihuahuas- which one of them always trys to attack me if I try and pet her. We are working on our relationship. But she’s not the happiest with others too. So I’m not too offended.), got a cake, birthday sign, sparklers and 40 ballons. She walked in and we started singing to her. She was so happy! And surprised too! Haha it was great. I am so grateful we were able to make her birthday special 🙂

And this past weekend we did some moving! It more turned out that the Elders helped with the actual moving and Sister Ruiz and I organized everything which was pretty fun setting up her room and the baby’s. What was really neat about it is that it was a less active member and her husband isn’t a member. He was actually against the church. Probably church in general. And at the beginnning when we started to go see the Sister he would have nothing to do with us. But! As we have been serving this family his attitude is changing too. From baking them cookies, helping A2 out with some things as she is a new mother, helping them pack and especially with the move. He sat down with us to eat once. And even said Amen at one of the prayers from the move. He has a long way to go but he is a good guy and it’s neat to see people change little by little 🙂

And then we had this super duper awesome ward activity! Which is just amazing because there hasn’t really been an activity for awhile, at least one where all the members come. But we had a picnic out at a park. We’ve been planning this for awhile. And so many people came! Like at least 50. We had members, less active members, investigators and a lot of friends that the members brought! We had food and three-legged soccer and real soccer and just a great time. It was super successful! Everyone had a great time. And we got a lot of potential people that we are going to visit. Super awesome. And! It was the best language study ever too! Haha. I actually felt pretty comfortable. Half the time I had no idea what was going on (and some people’s accents are pretty hard too) but I was able to connect with them more and even was able to help out a lot getting everyone excited to play soccer- in spanish! Pretty exciting. And Hermano E was there and had a lot of fun. He came again to church and he wants to attend the single adult conference coming up! Haha it’s great the work of the Lord 🙂

I love you all. Thank you so much for everything you do! I hope you have an awesome week! Go shine your light for the world!

Love,
Hermana Godfrey 🙂
