October 27 – Con todo mi corazΓ³n, alma, mente y fuerza

28 Oct

Whoa. I truly have mixed feelings writing this. Part of me doesn’t want to write it and part of me wants to make it the most paramount email of my life haha. But I think I’ll just speak from the heart and hope that the Spirit will touch you in the way that you might need.

Thank you so much for each of you who emailed me today. Those words were inspired and touched me. Thank you for being my number one fans πŸ™‚ I love you!

This week has flown by and brought so many miracles! R is doing amazing. Perhaps not in situation but her spirit and testimony is growing! T is still in the hospital but they hope he will be able to come home for a little bit before having to go back for another treatment. This family has a huge part of my heart πŸ™‚ Every time we go see R and T (T is in isolation and we can only speak to him via phone but R comes out and sits with us) it’s pretty hard because T is so fragile. But at the same time it is so inspiring. R understands the gospel. She talks to us and it’s amazing to hear her testimony- about how she knows that Heavenly Father has T here for a purpose (that he’s truly in His hands) or that she has stopped smoking and drinking coffee because she just no longer has the desire (we threw out her cigarettes with her!) because she sees a bigger picture of God’s plan for us. She even has said that without this experience she probably wouldn’t be as close to Christ as she is now.

We also had a really cool lesson yesterday with a part member family. The daughter (19ish) has been a member for pretty much her whole life and the other daughter (7) also comes to church because their aunt has brought them. The Mom, I, is not a member. But we know that she has had a good experience with the Book of Mormon and says that one day she sees herself joining. Missionaries have gone a long time ago but nothing since. So we’ve have been working with them. They are an awesome family! I love the love they have for each other and you can really feel the spirit every time we go. Yesterday they had us over for dinner (awesome food from Guyana!). We showed a mormon message about the restoration of the church. It was where a bunch of youth share their feelings about the restoration on their visit to Palmyra. It was really neat as we all talked about what we felt about the blessings of the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ. You could feel the Spirit. And after a bit I was like, “I would like to go there to where it happened. Maybe we could go next summer as a family”. Her daughter was like, “Yeah! Let’s go!”. You can see how happy it makes her daughter as her Mother feels the spirit. She’s coming closer and closer to Christ!

Also, you should probably know. I said I’d ask my parents if we might be able to join! Hahaha I know that you’ve always wanted to go Mom. Porque no right?

Anyways, I have so many other stories!!! And I have like no time. But one more. We went to visit a sister who just had surgery on her hand. She has been pretty bored so they asked us to visit her. She’s pretty awesome. So we were there and joking around in the beginning and getting to know her more. And then bam! We found out that she hasn’t been to the temple for endowments. In fact she knew a little about it but really not and her reasons for not getting her endowment was really because she didn’t understand it and thought she had to do stuff before that you don’t have to do. So we just had an awesome lesson about the temple and now we are going to help her prepare to receive her endowments. I just love how the Lord works and how we went there not really knowing she needed that but then God just provided a way for us to help her and for her to start preparing to go to the temple! It seriously felt so fulfilling and wonderful!

The mission has been the most amazing experiences of my life. It truly has changed me (at least I think and hope so). But I know for sure that my testimony has grown and that my understanding of the gospel has deepened. I love our Savior Jesus Christ and love more than anything serving Him and being a representative of Him. I am grateful that that never stops. Ever. Maybe without the name tag but I will never stop testifying of His love and His truth. I may not be perfect and I know I have a lot to learn and grow but I will forever strive to serve Him with all my heart, might, mind and strength. And don’t worry. I will not lessen my enthusiasm or devotion to serve Him right to the end. I know that God lives. I know that He loves us. I know that Joseph Smith saw God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. I know that through Joseph Smith the gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored in its fullness and glory. I know that there is a Prophet today who leads and guides the church. I know that striving our best to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the only way to find true, lasting happiness and peace in this world and in our next phase of life. I have studied and prayed for myself and I have felt of the peace and truth for myself. I’ve shared this before but I would love to share it again, one more time. This is my favourite scripture because I feel that it speaks exactly how I feel and will strive for πŸ™‚

“And I saw that I must soon go down to my grave, having been wrought upon by the power of God that I must preach and prophesy unto this people, and declare the word according to the truth which is in Christ. And I have declared it in all my days, and have rejoiced in it above that of the world. And I soon go to the place of my rest, which is with my Redeemer; for I know that in him I shall rest. And I rejoice in the day when my mortal shall put on immortality, and shall stand before him; then shall I see his face with pleasure, and he will say unto me; Come unto me, ye blessed, there is a place prepared for you in the mansions of my Father. Amen.” — Enos 1:26-27

I love you all. Thank you. Seriously, you mean the world to me. Have an amazing week! Keep being examples and reaching out to the one πŸ™‚ They need you and we need them.

Love,
Hermana Godfrey πŸ™‚

October 20 – babysteps

20 Oct

It was wonderful to hear from you guys today! Thanks for your inspiring words. They were exactly what I needed to hear today πŸ™‚

What a wonderful week! Dad you would be so proud of me! So you know how growing up I used to make every excuse I could think of to get out of yard work? Well, this time I used every excuse I could think of to let us do yard work. And it was awesome! I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned them before but a less active couple, the H’s, were a miracle for us this week. They let us in their home the week before so this week we went back, raked up leaves, pulled out weeds, cut the grass (and we still have a long way to go for our transformation project- but it’s a great reason to keep coming back!) and then had a wonderful meal and lesson with them. Seriously, I loved being out in the yard and working! It was so much fun! Also, Sister Alvarez is pretty fun/funny to hang out with so that helped too haha. But we loved it. During dinner we were really able to get to know them, hear their stories, how they came to find the church and what things are stopping them from coming. And then we had a simple but powerful lesson on the atonement of Jesus Christ. They really felt the spirit. They opened up and they want to come back. They are also pretty funny and it’s amazing to see the light of the gospel enter and change their lives. That’s what I love.

Another miracle this week was with Sister G and J. They are pretty wonderful. They too haven’t been to church in a while (more particularly J). Sister G is the mother and J is living with her until he moves into his place. We feel they are close to coming back too. So we went there and at the beginning I felt like I was there but not completely there (ya know what I mean) but I was trying. So then I just decided, well, I’ve got to move! So I got up and just moved closer to them, so I could be in front of them and really be there with them and for them. And it worked. It was really neat, then Sister Alvarez came closer too (it was weird the way things are positioned in the home). They shared their experiences and as we listened, Sister G told us about her experience in the temple. And we were able to ask when was the last time she has been there? And would she like to go back and feel that peace again? And it turns out she has a whole list of names of her ancestors ready on paper that just need to be entered into the computer! How amazing is that?! And J, well, he too, we were able to direct the conversation and find out about how he feels God’s love in his life. He even said one of the prayers for us. When we invited them to church Sister G said yes! J said maybe haha. And to be honest, he was sincere about that maybe. But we prayed this week that they both would come to church. Some of the people we thought would come to church didn’t but some of them did! It was awesome. We had just finished our correlation with our ward mission leader and coming around the corner. I looked and there was J sitting in one of the chairs! It was such a great miracle πŸ™‚

Oh and just one more because I loved hearing this. H. She is just progressing as she continues to find out more about the church and feels the Holy Ghost. This past week she had us over with her and her boyfriend and her Grandma. Her family is religious and her Grandma goes to church every sunday! Her Grandma is so nice and sweet. She asked us a bunch of questions about missionaries and what we believe and we would answer and then H would usually clarify and answer a lot better than we did haha. H’s awesome! Well, her Grandma apparently liked us a lot and this weekend was telling H how we were not what she was expecting at all and that she really enjoyed us and felt good. She also had some questions and asked H. H told us how she would answer and she was like, “It was really neat because as I was explaining it to her it felt like I would know what to say and that I was learning too as I said it.” Haha. Like, how amazing is that!? She also said that it felt really good to share it.

Can I just tell you how amazing it is to share the gospel?! It’s been so incredible this week to learn more about how the Saviour would teach and try to implement that into my life as a disciple of Jesus Christ. I love these people. So much. I love being about to listen to them, ask them inspired questions and then testify of Jesus Christ. Yesterday we had a pass off lesson to the spanish elders. Man, sometimes I get fustrated with my spanish because I’m not fluent (I’ve got some high expectations for myself haha. Some things take longer than what you wish but with God all things are possible) and sometimes I don’t understand or can’t express what I desire too. But then at one point during the lesson I just felt this feeling that maybe my spanish isn’t perfect. But that at the same time it is- because I can testify of Jesus Christ. Maybe this is chessy or maybe I’m becoing more latina haha but I want to bear my simple testimony in spanish.

October 13 – God and family

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Wow, I can hardly remember what happened this past week. But it’s been pretty good πŸ™‚

This week I again had another confirmation that members are key to this work (after all, missionaries are here to help the members with their missionary work) but some cool things happened this week.

First, remember C? I’m pretty sure I mentioned him before. He’s the guy that has had kinda a rough past and is working changing some things in his life. Well, we went there with a member this week. It was amazing because they just clicked. Not that they are the same age or even have the same interests but because they could relate to each other. She (the member) was really able to talk to C and help him realize he really wants/needs to make these changes. Also, C prayed more this week and it was wonderful! And he was just so willing to start and say the first prayer. Pretty cool. We are excited.

Also, same day we had a neat experience with a less active. We have been trying to get into the door of this one family. We went before and she made up an excuse to not let us in. We went again this week and we had a member with us. At first, she saw us and was like, “You know, you always come at a bad time. Don’t you know that…” and then she saw the member and was like, “Oh Pat! Hey. Well… come on in.” By the end of it we found out all about her and we set up a time to come help her with some service she needs. She was like, “And you might as well come for dinner too!” Haha it was perfect. And all thanks to our members πŸ™‚

I love these experiences. Good and bad. Although, I can’t really remember the bad ones that well. It just is wonderful. I love it, every minute of being a servant of Jesus Christ. I can’t wait to continue to serve these people and learn more from all of these experiences. Thank you for your love and prayers.

Also, I loved this talk. It’s so simple these steps. And yet I have a renowned love and understanding of these principles. If you have time to read it go for it, if not check out the little video highlight on the right side of the page. https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/make-the-exercise-of-faith-your-first-priority?lang=eng

Hope that works.

Okay, I love you! Happy Thanksgiving πŸ˜€ Two things I am grateful for all year round, God and family πŸ™‚

Love,
Hermana Godfrey πŸ™‚

October 6 – Just in case they kick us off the computers…

6 Oct

Here is a little excerpt that I sent to President Patrick. I’m not sure if I will have time to elaborate. But here is at least this! πŸ™‚

This was seriously a week of miracles!! It is just so amazing to see how Heavenly Father works! We have just found so many more investigators- 4 from Croatia and we already have 2 and there is so much potential. We also have a great investigator, H, she is the girlfriend of a less active (but investigating for the right reasons) and she came to conference this weekend and when we asked her how she liked it she told us about how she loved that they (the Prophet and leaders) said they were learning too and learning from us too. She said she felt like sharing the things she learnt with others and when we told her it was the Holy Ghost she kinda teared up and said, “Yeah, I thought so”. Wow. Just so amazing. Honestly, I am so grateful to Heavenly Father for allowing me to see and be a part of these miracles in His work.

Love you all!

Okay, so far so good. They haven’t kicked us off πŸ™‚ The computers at the church have a different internet thing and weren’t working today so we had to go to a store… and pray that we would haven sufficient time before they say anything haha.

Croatia. Seriously, milagros!!!! We have been teaching this one family (more the Mom than anyone). She is the one with two boys, R and V (V has cancer). The boys are sooooo cute and absolutely wonderful! R is so happy and excited to see us and T (V’s nickname) is so strong. I love when I can make T laugh- it feels like the best thing in the world. Well, R (mom) progressed so much in the gospel this week. We had one lesson with her and she had these questions and we didn’t have enough time to answer all of them. So we gave her some homework to read and find out the answers. Her questions? One, what does the Book of Mormon say about the apocalypse? And two, what happens after this life? Wow. And guess what?! We came back the next day and she had read ALL of the Plan of Salvation and ALL of the scriptures that were in the Book of Mormon (she didn’t have a Bible) and even more than what it asked!!! And then we started that lesson with having her tell her father (her parents live with her but only speak Croatian) how to pray and we invited him to say the opening prayer. Well, he did. And we looked up and saw both of them with tears in their eyes. He had said a beautiful and powerful prayer. We could feel it too. They just cried with the feelings of the spirit for a moment. Well, we knew that we had to teach him too. So Sister Alvarez spent the time looking up different articles in Croatian on their phone and sharing with him while I talked with R (mom) about the Plan of Salvation. Well, it was just amazing! R (mom) just explained the entire Plan of Salvation to me and it was perfect and she really understood it too. She told me of times she has felt the Holy Ghost in her life.

Now the story doesn’t end here. It just gets better haha.

So N, she is a friend of R. She was there with us for one of her lessons once and we shared the video “Because of Him” with them. N really felt the Spirit too. We were so excited and happy to teach her too. But we got the wrong apartment number and didn’t find her. But the other day she got a cell phone and she showed up at the end of the lesson. We invited her to conference the next day but things happened that she couldn’t. However, she called us up and she was like (in her broken english- she’s awesome) “I need to see you.” She said she wanted us to teach her. So we went there that night. R came with us. And it was great because we got there and asked if we could start with a prayer. Well, N gathered her family to come for the prayer (we weren’t really expecting that), there was her brother, her brother’s girlfriend and the girlfriend’s mom/family friend. Well, we taught all of them. R interpreted for us. But even more that than R shared her experience with all of them from the beginning of her journey in the gospel and defended the church and was just like, “and if you are willing, they will teach you too”. When we asked them if they would be baptized by someone who holds priesthood authority of God if they came to find out that these things are true, they said yes. And N, she was like, “Well, yes. Of course.” Oh yeah, and N was like, “Yeah! I felt it (the Spirit) too already!”.

Whoa. And where they live there are so many people from Croatia. It is just exploding with potential. So we are going to try and pick up a little Croatian too (I’m still working on Spanish too haha) and we have a member (actually it’s Brother J) who speaks Croatian and is more than willing to help us out with that. We are just so excited!

Okay, and one last quick story because it’ s one of my favourites from this week πŸ™‚

We have an investigator, H. She is dating one of the members and she really wants to find out for herself what we are all about haha. She’s seriously super amazing. I love teaching her and getting to know her more! Anyways, we invited her to general conference this weekend and she ended up coming to the last session! It was awesome! She was right there taking notes. Haha she said she felt a little weird when they addressed specifically those who were not members of the church (but I think it really helped her too). But one of the things I loved most that she said was that none of them considered themselves better than the rest. Sorry just got kicked off. Well, enjoy! Love you all πŸ˜€ Life is beautiful πŸ™‚

Love,
Hermana Godfrey
