April 28 – Casi un ano?!

28 Apr

What’s up?!?!? I hope you are all having a great Monday so far and loving life πŸ˜€ Today we woke up and it was super sunny! Still a bit cold and it hasn’t snowed for quite probably at least a week (I’ve probably jinxed that.. whoops) and I am only wearing a fleece and rain jacket πŸ™‚ So there ya go!

J M and us!

J M and us!

We are still working with the Elders in preparing Brother B for baptism. It’s coming soon (May 10th) and he is so excited! He attended a baptism in another ward and saw that the man baptized bore his testimony. When we went over he told us that he was preparing his speech! How great is that? I am excited to hear it πŸ™‚ Seriously, he is just so ready. We taught him about tithing and at the end of the lesson, he was like “Okay, yes, I will do that after I am baptized. No problem.” Wow! What faith! He didn’t have any hesitation or concerns, just complete faith and trust in the Lord. That makes me so humble to see that. I really admire Brother B.

Something funny/exciting was that Brother N came to church for the first time this Sunday! When the sacrament came he looked at the water and was like, “Oh good! I am thirsty!” After it passed, he said to me, “You know, they’re so small I could of used a few of them.” He was so serious and in his Brother N ways it was just hilarious. I tried really hard not to laugh… it kinda worked. But it was really cool that he finally came to church!

We had an awesome ward activity this weekend! So much fun! It was the monthly Filipino FHE! They do it every month but usually at one of the Filipino member’s homes- and their house is packed haha! This time they decided to have it at the church! It was great. We had a lot of members come and most of them brought a friend (non-member). And many of the less active/ returning members came! Sister Q and P came (P is just so awesome! It was pot luck and he brought this huge mango platter! I’m not sure why that makes him so awesome haha but he just fits in and is so nice!). Sister Q was having a blast and running around during the games. It was simply fun. Seriously, even I had such a great time! The Filipinos know how to do awesome activities and it was such a great missionary opportunity πŸ™‚ Love it all!

And guess how we are going to celebrate April 29th??? We are going to the temple! Pretty excited for that. We are going as a district (which is the 4 sets of missionaries in our ward) so it should be a great experience. I can’t wait to go back to the temple. What a beautiful and glorious place to be πŸ™‚

Well, I love you all so very much. Thanks for being those amazing examples to me and so many others! Have a fantastic week! Keep up being missionaries πŸ˜€

Happy Easter! Feliz Pascua πŸ˜€ What a great Easter week πŸ™‚ We had some great opportunities to have some of those that we work with to come to a couple activities that were going on. The Brigham Young University- Idaho (haha I didn’t know anyone in it) orchestra came to Montreal and put on a symphony. We were able to go with some of those we work with! And also an Easter concert this weekend that the stake had. Music is such a great way to grow our testimonies πŸ™‚

M got her patriarchal blessing this past Friday! She said it was an amazing and beautiful spiritual experience! I am so happy and excited for her πŸ˜€ That was something amazing to me. And we had a great Easter supper at her place with another member, Y. It’s good to have such amazing people and friends here πŸ™‚ I love that.

I also had a powerful and inspiring experience talking to someone this week. We were waiting for the bus and there was this man there, his name is B. So we said hello and asked him how he was. He responded and then looked at our tags. He said, “I’ve met your people before.” I thought maybe a few years ago in Montreal. But then he started his story… he said that he was on the train going to the camp. It should have taken eight hours but it took eight days. There were a lot of people in the train. I’m not exactly sure how he got it (I don’t quite remember), but a lady gave him a bible and that was all he had. A man saw him trying to read it but saw that he was struggling. He offered to help him and they took turns sitting and standing up reading from the Bible. He remembered that man and that was where he had “met” us before. It was the name of Jesus Christ that stood out to him. His story was of him on his way to one of the death camps in Auschtwitz. He told us of the burning bodies of his friends and the “wires” that you could touch, that it was the “easy way out”. B ended up helping one of the pastors there at the camp and survived. The thing that really touched me was that through it all he never lost his faith and belief in God. B told us that he had a couple questions to ask Jesus, one being why was he the one to survive. We talked for a bit, I really didn’t know what to tell him or to respond. All my “hardships” and “trials” seemed rather small. At the end just before we got off the bus he wished me good luck and then looked at me and said, “Don’t ever forget, God is always there”.

Sorry, if that was a bit depressing. It just really touched me this week and i wanted to share. I too, like B, though I’ve never been through anything even close to the same, know that God is there, always there. We must hold on and persevere. I know that Christ is our Savior and that through him we can find that peace, that solace and that love. Jesus Christ lived a perfect life, he felt all that we go through and was killed. But the most beautiful thing is that three days later, he rose from the dead and was resurrected. Christ lives! And because of that so can we πŸ™‚

2014-04-14 with an investigator

We had a close call with one of our investigators this week. We went to teach him with an awesome member. But he got a bit defensive (only with words- don’t get worried ha) and was starting to debate with us. We just testified and then had to leave to make sure we were home on time. It was kind of sad because the spirit was there when we testified to him but his heart just wasn’t open. And he is such a nice guy. We went home and it just hurt- all we wanted was for him to open his heart! But people have their agency and sometimes it isn’t their time right now. But we felt like it wasn’t over. So we decided to fast. On Saturday we had a ward activity- so we called and invited him. He decided to come. And it was great for him! He really enjoyed it and just relaxed and enjoyed himself!

Okay, I’m getting distracted because M was awesome and drove us to get groceries and to our emails- so I was showing her pictures of Eliza. Cutest niece in the world!!!

We found four new investigators this week! And they all seem pretty solid. One was from a YSA member. Our new investigator is T. She has grown up here and is super cool. So unjudgemental and has such a kind heart. It seems like all of our new investigators have been pretty eager to read the Book of Mormon. It’s pretty awesome!

Sorry, it’s short. Today was a bit crazy… never enough time but tis okay πŸ™‚ I am just so happy to be here. I love serving a mission and I love being a missionary. I couldn’t imagine it any other way. I love the gospel and feeling the Spirit. I know God lives. He knows us and loves us. Keep going and sharing the gospel! I love you all πŸ˜€ Have a great week!

April 7 – The worth of [you] is great in the sight of God!

Wasn’t conference awesome?!?! I just loved it and felt so inspired! I think some of my favourite parts though were when we all stood to sing the songs and having C, P and Sister Q, (some of our investigators) stand next to us and sing right along with everyone. It felt like we were all apart of something. It made me realize that whatever their pace is in learning and accepting the gospel that it didn’t matter because Heavenly Father is our father and truly knows each one of us. The rest will all come with love and the spirit and they too will feel of these truths we know to be true πŸ™‚

Some cool things that happened this week. We went yesterday to teach E, (the C family-she’s the 9 year old). She hasn’t been very excited and even sometimes not too involved in the lessons. We try to make it fun but she just doesn’t want it. She’s like a 15 year-old, seriously. Yesterday we had one of the young women in the ward with us (she is super great!) and were teaching about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We started and it was alright. But we could see that E just wasn’t into it (she also just woke up from a nap haha). I started thinking, “What can we do? We have to do something different. This isn’t working.” So I was like, “Alright! We are going to have an object lesson! Do you have some water and food colouring?” They went to look and didn’t, so I asked if they had pepper and they didn’t haha… so (it could of been a blessing because I didn’t even know if it was going to work). So I was like “Alright, how good is your imagination?” haha. As we really just started taking these things and really speaking to her and in a way that she could really feel and understand it she started participating and thinking about it. Near the end of the lesson we asked her what she could do to prepare for her baptism. She said that she didn’t know. But her Mom was like, “How about praying by yourself?” E thought about it and was like “Okay, although I don’t see how that is going to help me.” It was a great teaching moment. The young woman, A, who we brought with us starting teaching her about prayer and how it helped her and how it could help E. We bore our testimonies and she accepted the challenge to pray everyday this week. I didn’t even notice, but by the end, her Mom was crying. That was a really special lesson because we really were able to touch E and E wanted to do it and come closer to our Saviour. The Spirit was definitely there and guided Sister Gutierrez and I. And E gave a great closing prayer! We are excited for her. She’s so young and she just wants to grow up. But I can see how beautiful and special she is to our Heavenly Father. She is Heavenly Father’s little girl. That’s amazing to me πŸ™‚

I think that’s really something that has touched me lately. I was reading this morning, “Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God… And if it so be that you should labor all your days in crying repentance unto this people, and bring, save it be one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my Father! And now, if your joy will be great with one soul that you have brought unto me into the kingdom of my Father, how great will be your joy if you should bring many souls unto me!” -Doctrine and Covenants 18:10. 15-16

I love that because it says that “…how great shall be your joy with him…”. That’s so true! Think of all those you love- your family, friends, even the friends we haven’t yet met or made, don’t we want them to be with us in the Celestial Kingdom? That’s home, that’s where we want to be and how much joy we will have with all those we love with us. That’s what motivates me to share the gospel with everyone (including my friends back home). I love my God and “go… to [my] friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for [me], and hath had compassion on [me].” (Mark 5:19- but seriously, favourite story of Jesus so far- Mark 5: 1-20. Sooo good!).

This is amazing. I just love being here on a mission. Thank you so much for all of your examples! I am so proud of the things that each of you do and accomplish. And I love your insights and stories about the gospel and being a missionary. Keep it up! Keep sharing the things that make you happy and know to be true. I love you all and appreciate all that you do for me! You are amazing πŸ˜€ Have a wonderful week!

Love,
Sister Godfrey πŸ™‚

March 31 -NUNAVUT … Or maybe not just yet…

1 Apr

You won’t believe this! EIGHT TRANSFERS!!! EIGHT! That’s like 11 MONTHS! Hahaa, I’m not really sure what to think. I think it’s mostly a lot of mixed feelings. Sister G and I will be staying together in Montreal West. I’m happy to be with her! And I am happy and excited to be here in Montreal West. I just wasn’t expecting it but somehow not too surprised. One of our investigators, C, she was like “I knew it! I just had this feeling!” And then she asked how many more months I had on my mission. When I told her she was like, “That’s not too long. I feel like you will stay here!” I guess we will have to see if that comes true. And I’m not sure what to think about that either haha. But really, it doesn’t matter where you are called to serve, or what you want either. Because wherever the Lord needs me to be, whatever he wants me to be, whoever the Lord wants me to be, that’s what I want to become. And so, for at least 6 more weeks I will strive to serve harder than I have before. And that makes me excited πŸ™‚

So crazy stories of the week, aka miracles. This past Sunday we made our round of phone calls to all those we are working with and either no one picked up or they wouldn’t be going. So on our walk up to church I was praying to Heavenly Father, just asking him for a miracle that someone would come. And then we had a bunch of our returning members and families come! It was awesome! And one of the families and one of the sisters haven’t been to church for years! It was so great πŸ˜€ Also, two of the sisters we are working with are preparing for the temple for this coming month! It is super exciting πŸ™‚

Also, it was fast and testimony meeting this past Sunday. Usually only the missionaries go up if it is their first or last Sunday there (although, I never went up when I first got here). So I was just enjoying it, Sister Q right beside us, when Sister G bumps me and is like “Let’s go!” I was like “What!? No way.” haha. But she insisted (and something like this i knew it must of taken her a lot of courage and guts) and so we went up. And i am so glad we did πŸ™‚ She amazed me with her courage and enthusiasm. And to be honest, I’ve always wanted to go share my testimony to all of them. And was something I think I needed, as I looked out at all of them, I could feel God’s love for them and I felt how much I truly had grown to love them and care about these people. I am grateful to have the opportunity to get to know them even more and work along side them!

Well I love you all sooooooo very much and think you are just the greatest! I hope you have a FANTASTIC week and enjoy the spring that is coming! I LOVE YOU πŸ™‚ Keep up the great missionary work and remember who you are!

Love,
Hermana Godfrey πŸ™‚
