March 24 -Large doors swing on small hinges

24 Mar

What an AMAZING week! I feel like I just meet a whole bunch of famous people! And I did- church celebrities of course 😀 On Saturday we had a mission wide conference where Elder Neil L. Anderson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, Elder Hallstrom of the Presiding Quorum of the Seventy, Bishop Causse (who speaks French!), of the Presiding Bishopric, and the presiding area seventy! SO cool eh!? It was amazing and we felt the Spirit so strongly. And it was so neat to shake their hands, all of us missionaries individually. Then on Sunday we had stake conference where Elder Hallstrom addressed us. We have been so spiritually feed this weekend! I loved how much they spoke of really…

And guess who came to stake conference?! Sister Q!!! She came, after about 5 years of not coming she came! And she really liked it 😀 And she brought her friend (who we are also teaching!) with her and he really liked it! We were able to go over that evening and they both enjoyed it and you can see how much more P (her friend who we are teaching) is receptive to the gospel and seems even happier! We read the scriptures with Sister Q and she just had all this great insights into it! It was exciting to see her stop and talk to us about the verses and relate it to herself 🙂

The Equinox. Only happens twice a year! You can balance an egg! How neat is that!

p>Yesterday just felt like miracle Sunday! We had an amazing stake conference and I just felt so uplifted and spiritually soaring haha 🙂 We had some of our returning members come (including J and her son!) too 😀 On the way home we took the metro and bus. We were walking up the escalator and I noticed someone I have talked to a few times before going down, I called out to him (called him the wrong name, again haha). He saw us and was like hey! And came up to talk to us. His name is M. I remember having a feeling to talk to him almost 6 months before. He wasn’t interested then. We saw him another time, this time he accepted a card. The next time we saw him (always at least a month or two inbetween) he accepted a Book of Mormon. When we saw him yesterday he said he had been reading the Book of Mormon, just the beginning, and searching some things because of curiousity. We were able to talk to him and it was great. And before we left we asked if he would be interested in meeting with us- he said yes and said a church tour would be interesting! It’s great to see that by small things, step by step, great things can be accomplished.

Well, there are so many more amazing things that happened this week but I’ll leave it at that. I love you all and am super happy to read how you are all doing. Thanks for your examples of serving the Lord! I love you and hope you have a great week!

Love,
Sister Godfrey 🙂

March 17 – Running out of time…; but I love you!

21 Mar
Just kidding… okay, let me think 🙂

Our district (minus the other Elders) at the temple!

Our district (minus the other Elders) at the temple!

We went to the temple this week! It was AMAZING! Like, super duper awesome!  I encourage you all, go to the temple! I just loved it this past week 😀 And we were able to celebrate Sister Varela’s birthday too which was great! It was the next day and we all went together!

So one day this past week we had a bunch of lessons all set up and we were pretty excited about it. But every single lesson, except for one, got cancelled on us haha. But as missionaries you always plan for backups! Was a great testimony to me to see that Heavenly Father really is in control and has a plan for us to be those instruments in his hands! Because the people we ended up seeing really needed us that day. That was amazing to be there for them! And it wouldn’t have worked if the lessons didn’t work out. God is in control 🙂

We had a really cool experience this past week! We had a great lesson with a man we met about a week earlier (we were on our way to a returning members). The member we had planned to go with couldn’t come so it was a bit interesting set up arrangement to teach it. As missionaries we can’t go into a person of the opposite sex unless we have an adult of the same sex with us. So we got two chairs for my companion and I and put them outside the door in the hallway of the apartment building and his on the inside of his apartment haha. But he is sooooo cool! His name is B but we call him Brother B. He is from New Brunswick and lived here for 33 years. He is in his late 60s I would say (not that I’m very good at placing ages). He is so kind and humble! Anyways we have to go. But the lesson went great! And he is preparing to be baptized May 10th! He came to church and read what we asked him to!
And then that day we went to go teach our invesitgator De Ville but I was able to surprise her... with a gathering of friends to eat at Burger De Ville. And look how delicious!!!

March 10 – Indian food and miracles

11 Mar
Hey! This week was interesting. Sister G is doing better now. The beginning of the week was a bit rough and then she got better but then this past weekend she wasn’t feeling good again. So we had a lot of time in the apartment. I am super grateful though that she is feeling almost back to normal today. It’s a relief that she is recovering! And it makes me happy that Sister G is back.

But we had two pretty awesome days back to back. Usually with the plans you have in the morning there is always something that doesn’t work out the way you have planned. It’s totally fine but we had some awesome things planned and set up! And guess what?!? They all worked out! We were able to go to a lot more lessons than we normally do because bus after bus we just kept catching! It was great! So many miracles happened in just those couple days!

One of our returning members, Sister Q, was super excited when we came to see her. She was like “I have something to tell you! Come in, come in!” We couldn’t wait to know! But when we asked she was like, wait a minute, and kept finding us treats to feed us haha. We were like, “Sister Q just tell us” ha! But when she finally sat down we were so ready and then she was like, “Are we going to start with a prayer?” haha. So right after the prayer ended we looked at her. She was so happy. She said, “I found a new job! I can go to church now!!” It was the best thing EVER! We were all so excited and happy! She was like, “I’m going to bring P too!” P is a friend of Sister Qs who we are teaching. And then she was like, “I have this friend. We should go visit her. Let’s do a bible study with her!” And just called her friend up haha! She is pretty incredible! We can’t wait for her! Miracles, miracles, miracles! She is so ready for the gospel to be brought back in her life. All of her family served missions except for her and she always says, “I hope it’s not too late for me”. It makes me smile. It’s most definitely not too late! And she already is 🙂 I know Heavenly Father is so proud of her and the decisions she is making!

Also, C is doing really good as of late. She hasn’t come to church for a long time and we think that might take a bit more time (although we have a general authority coming March 23! Oh and I haven’t told you yet! We have an Apostle coming too! He will speak to us that Saturday and is going to another stake on the Sunday. We are super excited and looking forward to it!). But since our last lesson she had read like 15 chapters in the Book of Mormon!!! That was awesome! Before it was like a couple chapters, three at the most but she just read a whole bunch. We think she is really getting into it which is great!

And one last great thing 😀 Guess who gave their first talk in sacrament meeting?!?! M!!!!! She seriously did so good! It was incredible! It was really neat because she called us a couple times to go over it and for help. Her subject was on missionary work and first members in the church. She was super funny too and had some great expereinces! It was pretty exciting to see her up there and to be doing so well in her progress in the gospel. And the coolest part of it, it really never was me that did any of it. I just was a guide along her journey. But she was the one that felt the spirit touch and allow her to change. She is great and so are all of the people that we have the privilege to work with 🙂 I love the gospel!

March 4 – Short and sweet!

5 Mar

Hola mi familia! I hope you are all doing well! Sister Gutierrez was feeling sick yesterday so we needed to stay in. We got permission today to do our emails (although I don’t know how much longer we will have)! Guess what?! Brother J is changing wards! He actually lives in another area’s boundaries but because of the situation he was allowed to come to our ward. Brother J says he has felt a pulling and feeling that he needs to go to the Montreal East branch. It’s sad to not be able to teach him and have him in our ward but it’s amazing to see him follow the spirit and really trust in God. That is miraculous! And even cooler yet, he got his temple recommend and…. one Saturday morning he woke up and decided to drive to the temple. He walked in and did a bunch of baptisms for the dead. He just woke up and went! It was awesome! He keeps learning and progressing so much. Love it! And one day he called us just to tell us that he gave one of the missionary phamphlets to someone on the metros and he said, “The reward was immediate. I felt an overwhelming joy!”

I love you all so much! Thanks for being such great examples to me. I love my family! I wish I could write more but we don’t have much time since we’ve got a lesson soon. But have an amazing week! And tell me more of your missionary moments!

I LOVE YOU!
